Krikorian Movie Club ~ Free Popcorn on Wednesdays

You can earn points for each dollar you spend - certain days earn double points and Wednesdays you get a free popcorn with your ticket purchase - nice!

Toy Story 3 ~ how to save a couple bucks!

Our kiddos were so excited to see Toy Story 3 - and I was NOT excited about spending a bunch of money on tickets....

Here are a couple ways to save some $$

1. If you have an Entertainment book - your tickets will be greatly discounted! Don't have an Entertainment book (shame on you!) - if you attend a church or school that uses Scrip - you can purchase discounted movie tickets for several different local theaters (and some of the money you spend helps out the school/church - win win).

2.  Remember to check out your theatre's reward program - we usually go to Edwards in San Marcos - we scan our Regal Crown Club every time - it adds up to free stuff and doesn't cost anything.  Also there are several days where admission or concessions are less expensive - check out your theater!

3.  Make sure to send in those tickets to Disney Movie Rewards - you can earn up to 200 points! We are saving these points for Christmas presents - but you can also purchase travel certificates, photobooks, and much more!

* Return your overdue library books, CDs, Movies, etc - ALL city libraries forgive fines on the last Friday of every month!  At our library overdue DVD's are $1 a day - forgetting for a week is a bummer!

* Going to the Fair? You are in luck because on Friday Pennysaver magazine sponsors a BIG coupon book good for lots of discounts at many vendors in the fair.


* TGIF Jazz in the Parks has started YAY!!! this is in Carlsbad & we have been going since we first started dating (*sigh*) - these are the BEST - but it will be crowded! bring a picnic & enjoy! - Stagecoach Park
 
* Cruisin Down Grand in Escondido is so fun!
 
*FREE Movie at San Marcos Civic Center - outdoors so dress accordingly
 
*Friday Night Live Music in Del Mar (I've never been, but it sounds like a great date night!)

I suggest everyone go out and invest in a picnic basket - because if you are on this blog very long, you will notice that many summer freebies are outdoor concerts & movies - these are GREAT inexpensive family or even date nights! We like to make a Trader Joe's run right before we go - super easy, feels casual but still special & SOOO much less expensive than going out - hope to see you out and about!

Saving money at the Movies ~ how even a simple 'Date Night' became a blog entry

This is a repost - 'oldie but goodie' - I thought the new readers might like to see it...

So for the first time in a long time my husband and I went out to a movie at 1. was not animated and 2. without children in tow - a legitemate 'Date Night'

As everyone knows, we are on a hard core budget trying to pay down all our debt early (we are down to a few months left on one credit card & then we will owe on NOTHING but the house - yay!).  In addition to that we are trying to build up our 'emergency fund' AND our 'adoption fund' all while saving a wee bit more for retirement AND we've got two (hopefully soon to be 3) kids who are gonna need college funds - my point is - we have turned the frugal dial up a notch in our house just to kick start all of these projects.

And back to what I was saying - we went to the movies - San Marcos' Edwards Regal Cinemas and saw 'Date Night' at an evening showing - that should have run us $22.50 just for tickets alone - what?!

Luckily we have an Entertainment Book ($15 plus free shipping) that we bought through Ebates where we saved 25% off that $15 cover price (PS - if you do NOT have an Ebates account - you will get an extra $5 rebate on top of that!) There are TONS of movie tickets alone in the Entertainment book - but this one trip to the movies pretty much paid for the Entertainment book alone for us!  Because of our Entertainment book coupons - we spent only $14 on tickets!

We also used our Regal Crown Club card which is free - points add up & you get free stuff - ours gave us a free movie ticket to use anytime before July - yes! You basically get 1 point for every $1 spent. You can combine your card with discount coupons too!

We also became a 'fan' on Facebook which gave us a FREE small popcorn (normally we don't buy concessions - but I do LOVE popcorn & hey - it was free!) no purchase necessary.

I noticed while we were there that on Mondays Regal Crown Club members can purchase candy for only $1 and on Tuesdays RCC members can purchase a small popcorn for $1

Thursdays Regal Crown Club members get 5 bonus credits for each dollar spent!

I think in this economy AND with the prices of movies going up most people are probably cutting back a bit - I just thought I should point out these cost effective opportunities that are out there.

'Baby's Night Out' ~ UltraStar Cinemas Thursday 5/13 7:30pm

Want to go out for a movie, but don't want to pay for a sitter? Ultra Star Cinema hosts a 'baby's night out' once a month - they reduce volume, have dimmed lighting, and a changing station right in the movie theater. 

Tickets are also a discounted rate of $5.50 - can't beat that!

Hot tip - I had the 'blu ray' Tinker Belle coupon and brought it to target, they were out of the blu ray so I thought maybe they would use it on the regular DVD non combo pack (which is cheaper to begin with) and guess what  - it totally applied - no issue at all - it does specifically say 'blu ray' - so I would not suggest fighting it, but worth a shot.

Free Food at Chipotle (but you have to see a LAME movie - j/k)

So I don't get the whole Twilight thing - but I totally get I am in the minority there - if you are planning on going to the midnight screening - you are in for some free food!
If you go to the midnight premiere tonight can bring their "New Moon" stub to participating Chipotles on Friday the 20th between 11 and 4 to receive a free burrito, bowl or salad. I saw this offer at Vista Chipotle, but call your local Chipotle & see if they are participating too. Only for the midnight showing.
