* Santee Street Fair - 10am - 7pm - free admission - bring money for food, rides, etc
* FREE family fun carnival in La Mesa ~ dunn-edwards La Mesa 5250 Jackson Dr - FREE food, rides, & entertainment! 11am - 2pm - call 619-668-5091 for more info!
* Valley Center Western Days (Sunday too!)
* Remeber if you are planning a trip to the mall to check out the coupons posted here for Bath & Body Works & Aveda - great coupons you should print out and take with you!
* Lowes Build and Grow Clinic - 10 am for kiddos 5 & up - they are making a race car!
* Lakeshore Learning Center always has free make & take crafts from 11am - 3pm
* San Marcos Civic Center is showing ''Short Circuit" at 8pm
*Jack's Pond Nature Center in San Marcos - FREE every Saturday!
*San Elijo Lagoon has free guided walks with a naturalist FREE every Saturday!
*FREE STORYTIME at the always free Timken Museum of Art in Balboa Park 11am - noon

Rip Curl Sample Sale ~ Friday, Saturday, Sunday! UPDATE
Update - apparently this sale is not quite as sweet as it has been in the past - sample prices are $10 for shirts, about $20 - $25 for boardshorts, wetsuits for $199 (still about half of what these would sell for in surf shops - but not as deep a discount as they have been in the past) Anyway - I thought people who were debating whether they wanted to go or not may want to know some of the prices - thanks to my insider who gave me the scoop!

Sample Sales are my favorite. I honestly don't know how surf shops in Southern California stay in business with all the sample sales going on everywhere!

HURLEY Sample Sale - In Irvine, but thought I should mention
Hurley is having a Warehouse Sale on 2/24-2/28 (W-F noon-8pm, Sat/ Sun 9am-4pm). Save 50%-70% on past season collections in boardshorts, tees, walking shorts, tops, fleece and jackets. 2323 Main St., Irvine 92614.
I went to this sale last year - pretty awesome. I will point out that I have found comparable deals at Marshalls and TJ MAXX for Hurley - but you can't beat the selection at these sales - pallets and pallets and pallets of clothes - hundreds of every style in every size!
Irvine is kind of a drive - but I know so many of us travel up that way anyway I thought it was worth pointing out.

You have to drive to Irvine for this one - but trust me it is worth it! I have found that some sample sales are not worth the trouble (prices are comparable to Ross or TJ Maxx) or there is very little merchandise - but not at this sale - this sale in the past has had a HUGE selection for unbelievable prices. At sample sales there are always damaged items, but historically this sale has had TONS of 1st quality items as well.
Just to give you an idea - last year I went to this sale, I got tshirts for my son for $2, tank tops for myself for $2, O'Neill sweaters for my husband (with the $60 price tags attached & in perfect condition!) for $7, dresses for myself for $5 & $7 - i had a HUGE bag of stuff for about $65!
Just so you know parking is difficult to find, so you want to give yourself time. It is overwhelming when you walk in, so again, allow time to shop - this is a GREAT place to mark people off your holiday list. Usually they do not allow children or pets. Also they do not allow large purses or bags.
